There are several marquee matchups on tap for Week 10 of the NFL making the decision to choose just one game of the week a difficult choice.
Game of the Week:
In what could be one of the best Sunday Night Games of the entire NFL Season, the Houston Texans visit the Chicago Bears this Sunday night. Both teams enter the 8:20 PM Eastern Time game on NBC with 7-1 records. Both teams also have two of the best defenses in the NFL. The Texans are 3-0 on the road while the Bears are a perfect 4-0 at home. The Bears are coming off a 51-20 rout of the Tennessee Titans this past Sunday. The Texans had a tough time with the lowly Buffalo Bills as they won 21-9. Both teams rely on their star running backs in Houston’s Arian Foster and Chicago’s Matt Forte.
The Texans and Bears will both play a ground and pound game where they both will have to rely on their run defense. Of the two very stingy defenses that both teams have, the Bears have the slightly better one. The Bears are at home on Soldier Field where they are 4-0 this season giving them another edge. Also, since Chicago won so big the week before they have more momentum going into Sunday night. While Foster may be better than Forte, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is a better signal caller than Texans quarterback Matt Schaub. In what should be an outstanding football game, the Bears will pull out a very tight win by a score of 20-17.
Upset of the Week:
With several big spreads for this week’s games, there are a couple of upset options, but none with better potential than the Tennessee Titans over the Miami Dolphins, who are favored by six points. Titans starting quarterback Jake Locker will return to action after missing five straight games with an injured left shoulder. Tennessee can certainly use Locker especially after Miami’s defense just gave up 433 yards passing to Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts last week.
Even though the Titans were embarrassed last week by a score of 51-20 in a loss to the Bears they still put up 20 points against one of the best defenses in the league in the Chicago Bears. It is also a must win game for the Titans as they still have a slight shot at the second Wild Card as they are currently 3-6 and will have their bye week next week. The Dolphins are 4-4 and are coming off a 23-20 loss to the Colts and even though they are 2-1 at home that one loss was to a 3-5 New York Jets team and they only beat an awful St. Louis Rams team by 3 at home. Due to their vulnerability at home and since the Dolphins are coming off a very tough loss, look for the Titans to upset Miami in a nail biter by a score of 27-24.
Lock of the Week:
The Seattle Seahawks and the New York Jets are currently heading in opposite directions at the midway point of the NFL Season. When the Jets travel to Seattle on Sunday they will face a Seahawks team that is 4-0 at home. Seattle is also coming off an impressive 30-20 win over a solid Minnesota Vikings team. The Jets are coming off a much-needed bye week after losing 30-9, the previous week to the Dolphins.
The Seahawks have an outstanding rookie quarterback in Russell Wilson and he should have no problem throwing for 3 touchdown passes against the Jets. The Jets will most likely struggle against a good Seahawks defense and Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will have a very slight chance of beating his College coach at USC, now Seattle Head Coach Pete Carroll. The favored Seahawks will easily cover the 6.5 spread as they will roll to a 31-10 win over the Jets.
