Victor Cruz stating the obvious: Giants best when backs against the wall

It's well known and has been written over and over again, and it's also well documented by their two improbable Super Bowl championship seasons.

Against all odds, the Giants look to be nothing but mediocre in the regular season, then turn all worldy in the playoffs. We can't explain it and neither can they, but they'll try.

Enter receiver Victor Cruz, who was a guest on "NFL AM" this morning, stated what we've already heard before.

"We have a group of guys that never want to back down," he said. "I think it takes us to be backed up against the wall in order for our best to come out.

"I know it's unfortunate. I know coach (Tom) Coughlin doesn't like it very much. But it's something that we've been accustomed to doing, and I think it's going to hold true this year as well."

Granted it has happened twice. Backs against the wall... future in doubt... Super Bowl champions.  But it doesn't quite mean it's going be the same this season. It could very well be, but the other shoe has to drop at some point. For the two recent Super Bowl champsionships, there's countless times when they didn't get far at all, right?

But Cruz remains adamant. He feels this will be be again one of those years.

"Every year at this time people count us out, nobody picks us and then we go on this tremendous run to win the Super Bowl," Cruz said. "We're right where we want to be. Nobody's talking about us and we want to continue to keep this trend going of the last year.

"Win these last couple games, head into the playoffs with some momentum and everybody knows what we do when we get that momentum. I think we like it just the way it is right now... It's pretty similar. I think guys understand we control our own destiny just like we did last year. All we have to do is win these ballgames."
