Saints Linebacker Jonathan Vilma got hit heavy, while three others punishments were handed down by the NFL according to ESPN Adam Schefter for their role in the Saints “Boutygate” scandal
Vilma has been suspended for the entire 2012 season. Additionally Anthony Hargrove (currently with the Packers) received an eight game suspension, defensive end Will Smith four games, Scott Fujita (currently with the Browns) three games. All of these suspensions are without pay.
The NFLPA and the players are said to be appealing the penalties imposed on them by Commissioner Roger Goodell
It was revealed during the investigation that each player involved paid significant amounts of money into the “bounty” pool.
The Saints, who feared they would be without Vilma for an extensive period of time have been building depth in the linebacker area with the signings of Curtis Lofton(signed from Atlanta) and David Hawthorne (signed from Seattle).
