Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert both get axed in Cleveland

Pat Shurmur finally got to speak with his boss, new owner Jimmy Haslam III, something he hasn't done in weeks. Now, he probably wishes it could've been longer.

Shurmur was told today that he's being let go as Browns head coach along with GM Tom Heckert, according to Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer.

The departure of Shurmur seems like it was a done deal weeks ago. Haslam was just waiting for this day. He and his team will begin an immediate search for the best head coach and GM.

Haslam wants his guy, not the someone else's.

They do have their options with many names floating around as possible replacements. From the college ranks, there is Oregon's Chip Kelly and Penn State's Bill O'Brien, not to mention Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
