In a news conference at Cleveland Browns headquarters, owner Jimmy Haslam said he is not going into the coaching search “with one person in mind.”
He then describes what he was looking for in a coach: “Strong leaders, tough, demanding, organized, good attention to detail and able to motivate people,” Haslam said, according to Marla Ridenour of ohio.com.
Does that sound like anyone to you? Reports are Alabama’s Nick Saban is the number one target for Haslam, and though he’s keeping an open mind, he’s also setting his eyes on his primary target.
Saban has said he is happy at Alabama, but that’s a usual reply, especially since Alabama is playing for the national championship next week and keeping any distraction away is Saban’s job.
On Dec. 18, Saban cited: “I really enjoy what I’m doing here right now,” Saban told Le Batard. “You develop a lot of relationships and loyalties to the players you recruit and the players you have on the team and the people you have in the organization.
I don’t think it’s really fair to leave. I regretted when I left LSU because I left a lot of relationships there. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay here for a long, long time.”
Of course Saban said he was going to stay with the Miami Dolphins, then bolted for the Crimson Tide two weeks later.
