Final Score: Miami Dolphins 30 New York Jets 9
Jets Team Grades
The New York Jets played one of their worst games of the season after a week of trash talking they were blown out at home against the rival Miami Dolphins, and this weeks team grades will not be pretty.
Passing Offense Grade: D
The passing offense lead by quarterback Mark Sanchez was pretty much awful throughout the game. Sanchez had 283 yards on 28 for 54 passing but once again was bad protecting the ball, as he fumbled, and threw an interception in scoring territory. The line however didn’t help Sanchez much either, as he was sacked four times. Stephen Hill also hurt the passing offense by dropping a would be touchdown. A bright spot was Clyde Gates who made seven catches for 82 yards.
Rushing Offense Grade: D
The rushing offense wasn’t very good either besides one good from Shonn Greene of 36 yards the Jets were pretty awful trying to run the ball on Miami’s defense, as Greene was the Jets leading rusher with 77 yards on 15 carries. The Jets definitely missed Joe McKnight and Bilal Powell, as Greene just doesn’t seem to have the speed to run outside the tackle box.
Passing Defense Grade: C+
The Jets pass defense was ok against the Dolphins only allowing 139 passing yards to mostly backup quarterback Matt Moore after a Calvin Pace sack knocked Ryan Tannehill out of the game with a knee injury, and was also the Jets only sack of the game. There were a couple of questionable match-ups which hurt the Jets like in the redzone having 5-7 corner Isaiah Trufant guarding Dolphins tight-end Anthony Fasano leading to a touchdown.
Rushing Defense Grade: B+
The Jets run defense was by far the best aspect of the game against Miami, as they shut down the Dolphins running game for the most part. With the trash talk between the Jets and Reggie Bush they did a good job keeping him in check, as Bush had 59 yards on 14 carries, and lost a fumble. Daniel Thomas was really shutdown by the Jets, as he only had 42 yards on 15 carries.
Special Teams Grade: F
The special teams for the Jets may have had one of its worst games in team history, as for the first time since 1984 the Jets had a punt blocked against them, and it lead to a touchdown. They also had a field goal attempt blocked ruining Nick Folk’s perfect season. If that wasn’t bad enough the Jets gave up an onside kick recovery, and a 57-yard return to complete the horrendous day for the special teams unit.
Coaching Grade: F
Anytime you lose by 21 points at home against a team a team you beat on the road earlier in the season some of the blame has to go on Rex Ryan and his coaching staff. Mike Westhoff’s special teams unit was god awful, and they have yet to unleash Tim Tebow. They will have two weeks to prepare for the Seattle Seahawks, and hopefully the team will be prepared.
