Patriots running back Jeff Demps informed the Patriots recently that he is returning to track and has a race scheduled for next month, according to Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network.
He'd also still like to play football, but there are two problems: Problem number one is the that track season runs until August, and problem number two is that there's no way in hell Bill Belichick is going to keep a player that is not committed full-time to the game of football.
He wants players who eat, sleep and breath the sport. Demps would not fit the mode. But, never say never...
Demps was placed on injured reserved after hurting himself in a preseason game, which was unfortunate as he showed flashes of his speed in his little time of the field. It was speculated at the time that the Patriots "stashed" him away for next year, rather than letting him sign with another team.
That alone adds intrigue as whether the Patriots will still covet the speedster and accommodate him. Demps signed a three-year, $1.451 million contract with the team last August and already collected $211,000 guaranteed money.
