Jared Allen's hit on Lance Louis will cost Louis the rest of the 2012-13 season as the guard tore his ACL on the play. The same hit will cost Allen $21,000.
Allen hit Louis while blocking after an Antoine Winfield interception. Louis didn't see Allen coming, and his left leg was caught under him on the hit. Louis was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, and the Bears have since signed All-Pro guard Andre Gurode.
Many Chicago Bears, including head coach Lovie Smith weren't happy with the lick Allen put on Louis, deeming it illegal as he clearly left his feet, as well as hit him from the blindside.
"We have an injured player right now based on it," Smith said this week. "I think he could have gotten blocked a little bit differently, but that's about all I can probably say about it."
Allen said that he never goes head hunting, which is true if you check his track record since he entered the league. He claimed it wasn't intentional as he was only looking to spring Winfield down the sideline, trying to get Minnesota some points on the board.
Some thought he may receive a suspension for the hit, but the league didn't deem it worthy.
He called the injury unfortunate after the game, and the NFL has given him a big empty space in his wallet as a result.
