Falcons will release running back Michael Turner

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Falcons running back Michael Turner will be released after a down year and declining production.

The 31 year old veteran split time with Jacquizz Rodgers and the Falcons view Rodgers as the running back of the future.

Turner averaged a career-low 3.6 yards a carry and scheduled to make $6.9 million this season.

Turner was drafted by the Chargers in the fifth round (154th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. On March 2, 2008, the Atlanta Falcons signed Turner to a six-year, $34.5 million contract with $15 million guaranteed.
