Chiefs get their guy, giving up a 2013 second round pick, 2014 selection for 49ers Alex Smith

The Kansas City Chiefs were the front runners for Alex Smith, and they didn’t let anyone get ahead of them.

Andy Reid got his guy, and he gave up a lot for him, but Smith was clearly the top quarterback either in free agency or the draft.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, the 49ers will get a second-round pick this year and a similar selection in the 2014 draft, in exchange for Smith.

Kansas City can move on to address other positions of need now that they have gotten the biggest piece of business out of the way.
