Chan Gailey is out as Bills head coach

The Bills have fired coach Chan Gailey, according to Jerry Sullivan of the Buffalo News.  This comes as a mild surprise as GM Buddy Nix had said that Gailey was safe.

However, in his 3 years as coach the Bills never reached the playoffs and never really improved. Gailey finished with a 16-32 record (.333), a worse winning percentage than Gregg Williams, Mike Mularkey and Dick Jauron, the three preceding Bills' coaches.

Gailey released the following statement:

"First thing I wanted to say is thanks to the Bills organization, to Buddy and Mr. Wilson, for the opportunity," Gailey began.

"I understand this is a business, (and) we didn't get the job done. I've been called two other times to get things turned around (Dallas Cowboys and Georgia Tech), was able to do it, but we weren't able to get this one done soon enough, and I understand that completely."
