I think Cameron Wake missed the point of holding out.
The Dolphins’ Pro Bowl linebacker/pass rush extraordinaire reported to the Dolphins’ voluntary workouts on Thursday. He had started skipping voluntary workouts on the previous Wednesday, marking an 8-day holdout without receiving a new contract.
Wake is currently due ~$650,000 in 2012 despite having an impressive 22.5 sacks over the past 2 seasons. His 2010-11 campaign of 14.5 sacks even earned him a trip to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl. The average salary of the position throughout the league exceeds $1 million, and Wake’s play has shown that he is far better than a below average linebacker.
In the afore-linked article, Wake’s agent said:
Cameron felt like he had to go in to speak with Joe Philbin face to face, man to man, out of respect to him as a new coach.
They spoke, and Cameron decided to work with his teammates during this voluntary period, while I work on the business side of things with the Dolphins.
