Brian Urlacher’s future is on hold, but free agency intrigues him: “They have more important things to take care of right now”

Brian Urlacher doesn’t know if the Chicago Bears have any interest in bringing him back for 2013, he just knows he has to wait. “The Bears have been busy,” Urlacher told Michael Wright of ESPN Chicago.

“They have more important things to take care of right now. I’ll let that fall into place and see what happens.” The tone was a little sarcastic, but truthful with a new head coach and staff being filled out, player personnel decisions come second.

However, this isn’t your 3rd year JAG we’re talking about, Urlacher is a fixture on the Chicago defense, and most coaches do take time to speak to their key players. Urlacher admits he’s intrigued with the option of free agency:

"I think (team president) Ted Phillips said when they had the owners meeting they're gonna wait until the season is over; see what happens, how I play (before addressing the contract situation)," Urlacher said.

"It's kind of exciting. I've never been a free agent. So if I can get to free agency we'll see what happens. I no doubt want to finish my career here. There's no doubt about that. But you bring in free agency and all that you just never know what's gonna happen."
