League sources have confirmed that QB Brian Hoyer has signed his tender and will be back with the team, signing a 1-year deal worth a guaranteed $1.92 million. He’ll become an unrestricted free agent in 2013.

New England placed a 2nd round tender on Hoyer, meaning that if another team signed him to an offer sheet, and if the Patriots did not match the offer, that team gives up a 2nd round pick to the Patriots.

As far as we know, no teams were willing to depart with the pick.

Hoyer, 6’ 2”, 250 lbs, was an undrafted rookie out of Michigan State in 2009.

Although Hoyer hasn’t had much real game experience, the consensus around Foxborough is that he’s a smart QB with a lot of potential. He continues his development with the Patriots in the hopes he’ll one day be a starter in the NFL, quite possibly Brady’s heir apparent if he sticks around.
