Bill Belichick's dedication and knowledge of football is legendary. He spends a vast amount of time on film study and game planning for each opponent, and some of his players question whether he ever goes home.
“I like to think that I come in early and leave late, but he’s always here before me and always leaving after me,” LB Jerod Mayo told Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald.
“He enjoys the game. You can tell he enjoys the tactical part of the game as well. He’s an intellect when it comes down to football, and I can appreciate that.”
Exactly how many hours Belichick works is a question surrounded in mystery. “To be honest with you, I don’t know,” Mayo said. “He probably spends the night. I’m sure he spends the night. I know he has a nice sofa in his office.”
Mayo and his teammates all see the focused work ethic in their coach, and it rubs off on them. “The one thing I’ve gotten since I’ve been here is consistency,” Devin McCourty said. “You get the same guy every day. He’s going to have the same mentality no matter what the situation is.
“I don’t think there’s ever a week when you come in here and say we have nothing to worry about with a team, whether it’s their offensive coordinator who did something 10 years ago or whatever. Bill is going to find it, and we’re going to be ready. We always have to be prepared, and that’s how he is.”
